The Zimbabwe Peace and Security Education Training network (ZIPSET) Research and Methodology Training Workshop was held on the 19th to the 20th of October 2014 at Troutbeck Resort in Nyanga. The workshop paid particular attention to methodologies and designs in peace and security research. Thirty eight (38) participants from within and outside Zimbabwe attended the workshop.
The general objectives of the workshop were
1) To further participants’ knowledge and familiarity with the paradigms of peace and security research;
2) To develop participants’ practical skills in researching and publishing in the field of peace and security;
3) Advancing participants’ appreciation of ethical considerations when conducting research in the security sector;
4) Facilitating a review of a draft Peace and Security Curriculum.
Also at the workshop, ZIPSET members were presented with a certificate of competence after having undertaken and completed the executive Security Sector Governance (SSG) course at the University of Witwatersrand’s Centre for Defence and Security Management. Professor Van Nieuwkerk, a prominent scholar and writer in the in the field of security sector governance from the CDSM facilitated the review of the draft generic Peace and Security curriculum that was developed by ZIPSET.
